Minecraft

Ah yes, Minecraft, this game is very close to my heart. Growing up, I’ve had this passion to play this game and just thrive in it.

The thought that I could be better at other things in another life. The thought that I could succeed in another life, it makes the game more and more addicting.

The game tests your creativity and imagination as you can build anything you want in any way you can. Survival mode is for those who want the thrill of being able to die while building and fighting off monsters. Creative mode for those who want a world where they can test and build anything they want to build.

10 years since it was first released, this game has evolved the same way technology has. Until now, Minecraft has millions of players and that’s because the developers keep updating the game with new content and bug fixes. Whether you’re a kid or a teen or an adult, this game will surely keep you occupied.

Diablo III

The undying classic made in 2012, developed by Blizzard Entertainment, the company that brought us RTS games such as Warcraft and Starcraft.

A hack and slash RPG and the third installment of the franchise, Diablo III has definitely made its way in the top games that people should play.

Although, the genre isn’t for everyone, if you’re not into top view hack and slash RPG games then you might not like this one.

But for those of you who do, you’re going to have one hell of a time as you grind your way to acquiring the best equipment in the game. Even though this game was created in 2012, it still gets support from its developers, thus, the undying Diablo III.

It’s an offline game but you can also play the campaign mode with a friend to make the experience all the more awesome. Diablo III is surely a game I’d recommend.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

A masterpiece of Nintendo, exclusive on the switch, some say the most superior fighting game.

A wide roster of characters from games played on Nintendo devices, it’s a guarantee that you’ll have one hell of a time playing this.

Smashing your way to victory, there are no friendships in this game.
It’s a total masterpiece for fighting games.

BioShock Infinite

A steampunk themed action shooter developed by Irrational Games and published by 2K Games.

In a world where steam technology becomes advanced, technological marvels are created, as well as horrifying monsters.

You play as Booker DeWitt and you fight the forces of the false prophet. You also help the Vox Populi in defeating the elitist leaders on the floating city of Columbia

I’m very fond of the steampunk theme, it reminds me a lot of Dishonored and I fucking loved that game. Set in 1912, you use guns that look like antiques but are actually quite powerful.

Metroid: Other M

As a kid, I used to play on a Gameboy. I had one of those game cartridges that had a ton of games in them. Aside from that, I also had this game cartridge called Metroid Fusion and Metroid Zero Mission. These two games were one of the first games I’ve ever finished. Playing it on the gameboy, it already gave me chills, especially when there were suspense scenes where you couldn’t see the enemies.

So being able to play this childhood game on the Wii with better 3D graphics, it made me so joyful.

You play as the famous bounty hunter named Samus Aran. Equipped with advanced ancient technology, her suit enables her to do incredible feats.

A sci-fi first person shooter, this game is visually beautiful in my opinion. Although, a lot of people hate the game for showing that Samus has PTSD on her past encounters with her Space Pirate nemesis named Ridley.

I enjoyed this game so much because aside from the nostalgia it brought, the combat mechanics were seamless. Once you master Samus’s moves, you get this fighting chance when you battle difficult bosses such as the last one, the Queen Metroid.

Outlast

Yes, I had to introduce the game with this image. I mean look at it, isn’t it terrifying?
The first time I played this game, I was horrified. Even though I started playing the game in 2018, I was still pretty impressed with the movements of the character. I was particularly terrified with how you could look back while running, that’s fucking terrifying.

You think you’re safe once the scary music stops, but you’re not. Corridors are one of the most terrifying places in the game, especially the long ones. You never know what jumpscare awaits you.

Now obviously this game is a horror survival game developed by Red Barrels.

A reporter tasked to investigate the activities inside an asylum. He realizes the terrors that are inside and that he needs to record the horrors he witnesses. This game was one of the first horror games I’ve ever played, it doesn’t disappoint.

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations

Published by Ubisoft, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations is the last entry of the Ezio Trilogy.

Set in the days when Constantinople thrived in trade and culture, Ezio follows Altair’s clues where he hid the Apple of Eden. As the Templars are in pursuit of the Apple, you use every skill you have as an assassin to not let them acquire the piece of ancient technology.

You also play as the Master Assassin Altair as you witness the corruption creep its way into the the Assassin’s ranks.

Additionally, Ubisoft created a mini game. A type of tower defense but with Assassins. Some found this mini game awkward and unnecessary, but I think it was pretty good.

The game retains its parkour element as the game provides more refined movements.

Assassin’s Creed Revelations was one of the first few games I finished on the PC. Although some missions seemed a tad repetitive, the game makes up for it as you embark on Ezio’s last journey. It is indeed one of the best Assassin’s creed games ever.

Dishonored

Let me start with a quote from one of Dishonored’s cinematic trailers…
“Revenge solves everything”
Now doesn’t that sound completely (wrong) badass?!

A dishonored guard of the empress, accused of murder, thrown in jail as you await your execution. In a surprising turn of events, an anonymous group of people help you get out of jail. This is where you start your revenge.

Bethesda’s IP and developed by Arkane studios, Dishonored is a dystopian steampunk stealth game. Every choice you make and every person you decide to stab, will definitely affect future events. Every play through is unique in a sense that you have the freedom to do anything in anyway you want. You can play the anarchist, killing everyone who stands in your way, or a pacifist, choosing stealth as your weapon to achieve your missions.

You have the freedom to be your own kind of assassin, causing a more immersive experience. I highly recommend this game as it tests your decision making skills, as well as your stealth.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Skyrim, the game that pulled me into fantasy rpg games. I used to play this on my cousin’s pc but I couldn’t progress much since they lived in another city, also because I was a kid and all I did was kill everyone in Whiterun.

Bethesda Game Studios, home of the executive producer Todd “the god” Howard. Todd is widely known for leading the development in the Fallout and Elder Scrolls series. 2 famous game franchises, it’s enough for people to start calling you a “god”.

Selling around 20 million copies, Skyrim is one of the most famous open world fantasy rpg games. What started out as an arena game, the Elder Scrolls evolved as technology did.

You start out as a prisoner who’s about to be executed, but is then saved by an ancient dragon called “Alduin”.

As you traverse the province of Skyrim, you realize that you’re more than just a prisoner. You are the Dragonborn, capable of sucking the souls of the dragons you kill. According to the prophecy, you will be the one to banish Alduin from the mortal realm.

But just because some old prophecy says you’re the dragonborn doesn’t mean you can’t be anything else. In the Dawnguard DLC, the player is given the chance to join Vampire Hunters, the Dawnguard, or if you’re feeling blood thirsty, you can join the Vampires.

Skyrim has 3 DLCs, the Dragonborn, Hearthfire, and the Dawnguard. These DLCs add more content to an already action packed open world game. The combat mechanics may be pretty simple and basic, but it has a certain charm to it.

To be honest, Skyrim is a blackhole, in a good and bad way. Bad because life goes on as you sit on your chair while you loot every house for gold, addiction is serious and you should be mindful of your playing time. Good because Skyrim pulls you into its diverse world filled with fantastic creatures. The lore is interesting and you can really tell that Bethesda put a lot of effort into this game. Effort that was well rewarded.

To sum it all up, play this game. Play it and see the wonders that is the province of Skyrim. Just play it. Go.

Fallout: New Vegas

From the developers that brought us Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. Obsidian Entertainment was given 18 months by Bethesda studios to finish a massive post-apocalyptic open world role playing game. That’s pretty impressive if you ask me.

Although its game engine is the same as the previous iteration Fallout 3, this factor helped the game developers to comply with Bethesda’s due date. This doesn’t mean that it’s completely perfect, it’s far from it actually. Only having 18 months to finish a game of this size, the final product had numerous bugs, but these were later fixed with patches from the developers

Considering that this game was created in 2010, the game mechanics were very impressive. To put it simply, you play as a mailman who survived getting shot in the head at point blank range. You then seek out the men who failed to kill you and retrieve the package they stole from you, you know… Because you’re a mailman in the post apocalypse.

Playing Vanilla Fallout: New Vegas is okay, you should experience it first as it was made by the developers to capture its essence… But fans have created numerous mods to further improve the overall experience of the game, improving the 2010 graphics as well.

All in all, if you’re one to play games that make you think about your choices, this is the game for you. Utilizing a “Karma” system, the player’s choices affect its relationship with the rest of the NPCs, fulfilling the definition of the genre, “Role Playing Game”.
