From the developers that brought us Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. Obsidian Entertainment was given 18 months by Bethesda studios to finish a massive post-apocalyptic open world role playing game. That’s pretty impressive if you ask me.
Although its game engine is the same as the previous iteration Fallout 3, this factor helped the game developers to comply with Bethesda’s due date. This doesn’t mean that it’s completely perfect, it’s far from it actually. Only having 18 months to finish a game of this size, the final product had numerous bugs, but these were later fixed with patches from the developers
Considering that this game was created in 2010, the game mechanics were very impressive. To put it simply, you play as a mailman who survived getting shot in the head at point blank range. You then seek out the men who failed to kill you and retrieve the package they stole from you, you know… Because you’re a mailman in the post apocalypse.

Playing Vanilla Fallout: New Vegas is okay, you should experience it first as it was made by the developers to capture its essence… But fans have created numerous mods to further improve the overall experience of the game, improving the 2010 graphics as well.

All in all, if you’re one to play games that make you think about your choices, this is the game for you. Utilizing a “Karma” system, the player’s choices affect its relationship with the rest of the NPCs, fulfilling the definition of the genre, “Role Playing Game”.
